This morning's verse talks about the sin of adultery. How can we avoid ourselves from committing this sin?
From my experience, there are two stages. The first stage is where we need to be released from the roots. We need to seek His Wisdom to be set free from the roots. When we want the Lord to dissolve issues in our lives such as addictions, we need to invite Him to deal with the issue from the roots up because that is what Jesus did when He withered the fig tree that was not fulfilling its role bearing fruit. (Ref Mark 11:20-21)
The second stage is where we just don't give the devil a foothold into our soul; our mind, will and emotions. (Ref Ephesians 4:27) As Joseph did when he faced the temptation to commit adultery with Potiphar's wife, he ran away from the situation, even leaving his clothes. We can see that he was desperate to run away from the possibility of committing sin. (Ref Genesis 39:12) Even a little sin can gradually damage your whole soul, which includes what seems to be permissible at start. He judges the intentions, our motives. (Ref Hebrews 4:12) What is our deep rooted motive when we justify that it is OK to do certain things even knowing the consequences? (Ref 1 Corinthians 5:6-8)
Today, let us seek His Wisdom in terms of how to deal with the temptation to commit adultery which includes having the attitude of lust. (Ref Matthew 5:28) (I believe the two stages shared above can be applied to other sins such as bitterness, anger etc..)
May the Lord continue to richly bless you!
