Today's verses talk about our motives to follow God. God may stand in the way so that our ill motives do not lead to destruction. Our doings are not without motives. He wants our Godly motives aligned with our doing. Even if our actions are right, our motives need to be in check.

The Lord initially did not want Balaam to go to Balak to curse the Israelis, but because of Balak's persistence, out of mercy, He let Balaam go but with instructions. Because of the freewill given to us, although it is not His best, He would allow us to do certain things. At this stage, it was very likely that Balaam's motives were beginning to shift away from His, compromising on His initial instructions, because Balaam did not need to ask Him  twice about what to do with Balak and his men.

Today, let us ask ourselves, what our motives are. Are we faithful to what the Lord has initially led us to do? He may still allow us out of mercy to do what is contrary. It is when we act out of His mercy that our motives need to be in check because rather than consistently following Him, we may end up taking a wrong path giving in to temptations from whom His mercy was intended. And He may show us the wrong motives through circumstances we face because things will not go smoothly.

May the Lord continue to richly bless you!
