This morning's verse speaks of unleavened bread to be used for Passover. What does this mean? Leavened bread uses rising agents such as yeast with dough which expands the bread whereas unleavened bread doesn't, keeping the bread flat. The bible uses yeast which is very tiny as a source of sin which can then be used to leaven the dough to rise. (Ref 1 Corinthians 5:6) If we allow tiny sin which may not be discoverable to come into our lives, it can further permeate our mind to do damage to our behavior as well.
Suppose our mind, emotions were at peace but suddenly an offence we received from a certain individual in the past came up to our mind constantly thinking about it for the next hour. It can easily permeate our mind with negative thoughts making it a challenge to restore the peace of mind we once had. Whenever a negative thought comes into our mind, we need to make a conscious effort to continue to focus on what is holy and righteous, shifting our minds away from negative, ungodly thoughts, ideas etc.. (Ref Philippians 4:8)
This is where our focus of mind comes into play to experience victory in our lives. In today's society, multi tasking has become very common where we do one thing while we do another such as listening to podcasts while we do cleaning of the house. Although there may be seasons when this may help us to use our time efficiently, we need to be cautioned of losing focus leading to double mindedness which God warns us against. The bible teaches us the importance of single mindedness. (Ref Matthew 6:24, Luke 10:42, Philippians 3:13) Focusing on one thing which God leads us to, keeps us away from letting other things that may be ungodly come into our minds. This may be a blind spot for believers struggling with all kinds of negativity in our soul.
Today, let us refocus our minds on Christ Jesus. If we are constantly overcome with battles going on in our minds, one of the options of victory is to focus our attention on one thing at a time. And we will experience the fruit of the Spirit of peace (Ref Galatians 5:22) and rest that Christ gives us. (Ref Matthew 11:28)
May the Lord continue to richly bless you!
