This morning’s verse continues to talk about the consequences of disobedience.

Again, as we can see from Deuteronomy 27:15-26 leading up to Deuteronomy 28, He is concerned about our heart, character, when it comes to obedience.

Therefore, our growth and prosperity in our walk with the Lord should be more about what we cannot see (See 2 Corinthians 4:18), which is our character becoming more like Christ (See 2 Corinthians 3:18), which has eternal value. We can experience more rest, peace, and acceleration at the same time because character growth is completely up to us, non-dependent on others’ choices, not circumstantial. However, unfortunately, what we see around us is mostly packed and focused on how we can gain more finances and wealth, status, influence, respect, etc. These themselves are not bad, as the Lord actually does bring about these as a result of our obedience. The key here is our motive. Would we still obey without these blessings because this is part of His work?

Today, let us give our whole heart to becoming more like Christ in character, which has eternal value. We don’t even need to be bothered by abundance and prosperity because they are His promises to those who obey Him. (See Deuteronomy 28:2)

May the Lord continue to richly bless you!
